Now Shipping from Mouser: Maxim's MAX32600 Microcontroller and Reference Design with ARM mbed for IoT Applications

January 11, 2016 - Mouser Electronics, Inc. is now stocking the MAX32600 wireless measurement microcontroller and MAX32600MBED reference design from Maxim Integrated. The MAX32600 microcontroller is designed specifically for health and medical wearables, integrating a Trust Protection Unit that provides the highest level of security with onboard public key authentication, data encryption, and tamper detection — ensuring that data cannot be compromised. The MAX32600MBED reference design adds an ARM® mbed™-supported platform to the MAX32600 microcontroller, enabling engineers to quickly and easily design Internet of Things (IoT) applications.

The Maxim MAX32600 wireless measurement microcontroller, now available from Mouser Electronics, is based on the ARM Cortex®-M3 32-bit RISC CPU operating at up to 24MHz. It includes 256KBytes of flash memory, 32KBytes of SRAM, and a 2KByte instruction cache. The microcontroller integrates high-performance analog peripherals, including an internal temperature sensor, four operational amplifiers, four low-power comparitors, a 16-bit analog-to-digital converter (ADC), and two 12-bit digital-to-analog converters (DACs), and two 8-bit DACs. The MAX32600 has multiple operating modes with many user-configurable options offering significant flexibility in total power consumption. The microcontroller's ultra-low-power capabilities allow it to consume just 175µA/MHz executing code from cache, and 1.8µA with data retention in standby mode.

The MAX32600MBED reference design, also available from Mouser Electronics, includes the MAX32600 microcontroller and an onboard ARM mbed hardware development kit interface to provide quick connection to toolchains. The complete evaluation system features a throughhole prototyping area with adjacent access to analog front end (AFE) connections and up to 64 general-purpose input/output (GPIO) access through Arduino-compatible pins and additional 100mil × 100mil headers. The MAX32600MBED offers SPI and I2C connectivity, as well as an integrated USB 2.0 Full Speed interface that provides a data channel of up to 12Mbits/s.
