May 14, 2018 - Mouser Electronics, Inc., the New Product Introduction (NPI) leader empowering innovation, is pleased to announce that it will be a sponsor of the University Interscholastic League Robotics State Championship: FIRST^® Division, May 18 and 19 at the Austin Convention Center. As Captains of Innovation Sponsor, Mouser will showcase fascinating technologies at its exhibit at the FIRST in Texas Robotics Hall of Fame.

Hosted by FIRST in Texas, the championship is based on the arcade-inspired theme for 2018 — FIRST POWER UP™. Two 3-team alliances are "trapped" in an 8-bit video game, where they must control their robots to perform tasks and defeat the evil boss to win the game.

Since 2012, Mouser has sponsored FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology), the world's leading student-serving nonprofit advancing science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). Mouser sponsors FIRST competitions at the local, regional, and international levels. This year marks the third time the competition will be offered under the University Interscholastic League (UIL), an organization that provides educational extracurricular academic, athletic, and music contests for public primary and secondary schools in Texas.

Mouser also recently sponsored the FIRST Robotics Competition Hall of Fame exhibit at the 2018 FIRST Championship events in Houston and Detroit, which hosted more than 30,000 high school students from around the world at the two 4-day championship events.

FIRST Robotics Competition is an annual competition that challenges high school students to build 120-pound robots that complete a different task each year using a standard set of parts, plus any additional off-the-shelf or custom parts. Each team receives a kit of parts, including motors, batteries, a control system, a PC, and a mix of automation components — with no instructions. Teams have six weeks to transform their kits into working robots designed to perform specific tasks.
